The Lebanese ambassador to Mexico hosts the Maronite Foundation delegation

At the dinner hosted by the Lebanese ambassador to Mexico, the Foundation’s president, Mr. Charles Hage, thanked the Mexican society and the ambassador for their belief in the Foundation’s work as well as their persistence on good ties between Lebanon and Mexico.

Carlos Slim spoke to us about the journey of his grandfather to Mexico and how his father, in 1926, showed the Mexican authorities the important role of successful Lebanese in helping the Mexican economy. He promised us that he would help the cause of the Foundation, and he praised the importance of the Foundation’s work in building bridges between Lebanon and its diaspora. He told us: “If you continue with this persistence, you will achieve [great] results, God willing.”

Mexico’s deputy Foreign Minister Jesus Saadeh Khoury, praised the importance of the diaspora. “There are 35 million Mexicans, and about 25% of them are abroad in the United States. They are working in order to find a path back home. As for the Lebanese, their challenge is greater because there is a lower number, around 8 million across the [world].” The diplomat called on the Lebanese diaspora to strengthen and increase their ties with their motherland, Lebanon.
