Maronite Foundation in the World Visits Mexico to Discuss Lebanese Citizenship and "Back to the Roots" Campaign
On June 5, 2023 The Maronite Foundation in the World recently visited Mexico to meet with Ambassador Sami Nmeir and discuss the registration process for Lebanese descendants, including the need for closure on pending naturalization applications that have been outstanding for over two years. The foundation also discussed potential joint campaigns with the Mexican Lebanese community to reach a large number of citizens interested in reclaiming their Lebanese citizenship, and to promote an upcoming "back to the roots" campaign.
During the visit, the foundation also met with H.E. The Nuncio in Mexico Monsignor Joseph Spiterri and other members of the Mexican Lebanese community to discuss ways to launch a country-wide campaign promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Lebanese community in Mexico.
"The Maronite Foundation in the World is committed to helping Lebanese descendants around the world reconnect with their cultural roots and claim their Lebanese citizenship," said Charles Hage, president of the Maronite Foundation in the world. "We were pleased to meet with Ambassador Nmeir and other members of the Mexican Lebanese community to discuss ways to promote this message and make it easier for people to register and claim their Lebanese citizenship."
The Mexican Lebanese community is well established in most Mexican cities, with a large number of second and third generation Lebanese descendants. The Maronite Foundation office in Mexico headed by Mrs Wafaa Traboulsi hopes to raise awareness of the community's rich heritage and cultural contributions through a multi-faceted "back to the roots" campaign that will launch later this year.
"We believe that reconnecting with your cultural heritage can be a powerful and transformative experience," added Hage. "We look forward to working with the Mexican Lebanese community to promote this message and help more people claim their Lebanese citizenship."
