A delegation from the Maronite Foundation visited the embassy of Lebanon in Washington DC

On May 20, 2023 A delegation from the Maronite Foundation in the World visited the embassy of Lebanon in Washington DC to discuss the ongoing cooperation with the embassy staff in promoting the registration process of new-borns and marriages in the United States.
The delegation, headed by its President, Mr. Charles Hage, included Mr. Joe Khouri, Head of the Foundation in the U.S., and Ms. Josephine Sfeir, Regional Director. The delegation met with Charge d'Affaires a.i. Wael Hachem, Counselor Bachir Tawk and Consul Sawsan Awad to discuss the process of registering births and marriages at the Lebanese Embassy and Consulates in the USA and to address concerns around the delay in feedback on applications to claim back Lebanese citizenship.
During the meeting, the Maronite Foundation raised concerns about the delay in feedback on applications that have been filed by Lebanese citizens to claim back their citizenship, with some applications pending for two to three years without any response. The Embassy team explained that the actual situation in Beirut caused some delays. Discussing technical support from the Maronite Foundation to the process including the possibility of reanimation of the web application service and website formerly known under “Lebanity” or agreeing on a substitute to expedite files might be a good option.
In addition, the Maronite Foundation commended the embassy for its leadership initiative in organizing the Saturday Street Fair, which would allow Lebanese living in the area to share their heritage and culture with the local community.
The meeting between the Maronite Foundation and the embassy of Lebanon in Washington DC was productive and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two organizations to promote and preserve Lebanese culture and heritage in the United States.
The Maronite Foundation in the World extends its thanks to Charge d'Affaires a.i. Wael Hachem and his staff for their hospitality and encourages all Lebanese citizens in the United States to register their newborns and marriages at the Lebanese embassy and consulates.
